In order to fill its mission requirements, the Air Force employs service members in specialized positions to perform a specific duty. These special duties allow Airmen to step outside their conventional roles and experience a completely new side of the Air Force.
One such position is the military training leader, a position held by Staff Sgt. Ali Bueshi, the 373rd Training Squadron Det. 3 flight chief, and Staff Sgt. Jessica Nienhueser, the 373rd TRS Det. 3 assistant flight chief.

Air Force officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening for the Air Force's new Warrior and Family Operations Center here May 25.
More than 200 people witnessed the opening of the 7,000 square-foot facility housing four programs: Air Force Wounded Warrior, Airman and Family Readiness, Retiree Services and Sexual Assault Prevention and Response.
Formerly an Army and Air Force Exchange Service eating establishment next door to the Air Force Personnel Center here, the building was completely renovated before the Airman, Family and Community Operations Branch moved in, officials said. Renovation began in October 2010 and was completed in mid-April.

Fifteen employers have been chosen to receive the 2011 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award in recognition of the support they provide to their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.
Officials at Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Defense Department agency, announced the 15 recipients of the department's highest recognition for employers May 31, noting that they stood out from a field of 4,049 nominations submitted by Guard and Reserve service members or their families.

Scientists with the 711th Human Performance Wing discussed the latest research on human performance problems and opportunities May 2-5 at the 16th Annual International Symposium on Aviation Psychology here.
The symposium brought together scientists, research sponsors and aviation operators from 20 countries to discuss ways to make flying safer and more efficient.
Dr. Key Dismukes, a retired chief scientist for aerospace human factors at the NASA Ames Research Center, gave the keynote address and spoke about the state of aviation psychology as a discipline.

Today Strategic Air Command, tomorrow Air Combat Command, the next day Air Force Space Command, the next week brings about the birth of Global Strike Command. From missile wings to space wings and back to missile wings again. From the loose and virtually effortless physical training test requirements levied on us yesterday, to the rigor and discipline required to achieve a passing score today.
You should all remember the recent high year of tenure changes that affected so many of our fellow Airmen (which was actually a return to what they were just a few years ago). And end strength fluctuations -- I've seen them several times over. This sums up just a few of the larger-scale changes I've experienced during my time in uniform.

The U.S. Senate confirmed the assignment of the newest commander of Air Combat Command.
Lt. Gen. Gilmary M. Hostage III, whom the Senate also confirmed for appointment to the grade of general, will assume command of ACC at a later date.
General Hostage currently serves as the commander of U.S. Air Forces Central Command, and as the Combined Forces Air Component commander for U.S. Central Command. In his current position, he is responsible for developing contingency plans and conducting air operations in a 20-nation area of responsibility covering Central and Southwest Asia.

More than 160 Iraqi airmen graduated from a two-week enlisted professional development course taught by U.S. Air Force advisers here May 28.
The students, who learned skills designed to make them more effective leaders, supervisors and managers, were praised by their American advisers for their achievements in the face of tragic circumstances.
"This graduation is a tremendous milestone for the Iraqi Air Force and it celebrates the partnership between Iraq and the United States," said Brig. Gen. Anthony J. Rock, the Iraq Training and Advisory Mission-Air director. "It also celebrates the importance of education. We should always aim to learn as much as we possibly can, because education is like a jewel -- it's priceless."

Advisers from the 721st Air Expeditionary Advisory Squadron held an inauguration ceremony here to commemorate the opening of a metals technology and sheet metal shop in Iraq's newest and largest maintenance hangar.
The ceremony was held to honor the effort and dedication it took to build two fully functional maintenance shops to U.S. safety standards after four years of hard work and patience.
"This accomplishment significantly advances the Iraqi Army Aviation Command's organic structural-repair capability to enhance overall fleet readiness," said Maj. Claudio Covacci, the 721st AEAS's maintenance officer who leads a team of maintenance advisers.

A deployed firefighter and a crew chief instructor teamed up with stateside firefighters to donate equipment to Afghan air force firefighters , bringing them one step closer to independent operations.
Airmen from the 438th Air Expeditionary Wing and firefighters in Parkton, N.C., teamed up to deliver 80 Nomex hoods needed to further protect the Afghan air force firemen when responding to base emergencies. Nomex hoods are also used by race car drivers, but most commonly by firefighters.
