On the surface, it was a reveille ceremony like any other. Cadets were lined up in formation waiting for the first note to sound. The honor guard was in place, prepared to hoist the flag, and a bugler was standing by, waiting for his queue.
However, this was anything but a typical reveille ceremony. The more than 4,000 cadets on hand were there to honor an event that is ingrained in the minds of many Americans, an event that turned all eyes toward NASA for something grimmer than a glorious occasion like a moon landing: the Challenger shuttle disaster.

A security forces Airman, with no prior computer programming knowledge, developed an application that allows Airmen to calculate their physical-training test score on their smart phone or mp3 player.
Senior Airman Julio Medina, of the 6th Space Warning Squadron, created AF Tracker, a free application available through iTunes with a PT calculator capability and an option to e-mail the score to anyone from the application.
Airman Medina said he's always had a passion for computers, and once he found out anyone could develop applications for smart phones like the iPhone, he started thinking of ideas.

Air Force Gen. Kevin P. Chilton passed the flag of U.S. Strategic Command to Air Force Gen. C. Robert Kehler Jan. 28, giving the nation's nuclear deterrent mission a new commander.
General Chilton, a pilot who served 10 years with NASA and flew three space shuttle missions, retired after 34 years of service. General Kehler assumed command after serving as the commander of Air Force Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.
Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates presided over the ceremony. Outside the hangar where the ceremony took place were aircraft important in the command. From B-52 Stratofortress and B-2 Spirit bombers, to F-15 Eagles, to U-2 reconnaissance planes, the aircraft served as a backdrop to honor General Chilton's career from the Air Force Academy class of 1976 to orbit to today.

Recently, my wife and I were walking through Manitou Springs when we overheard Bob Marley's classic "Buffalo Soldier" coming from the speakers in a nearby park.
I reflected back to the first time I heard the song live at a concert in Tacoma, Wash., where he and "The Wailers" performed. As we got closer to the park, we could see that many were familiar with the artist's lyrics and were singing along.
A portion of the song goes like this: "He was a Buffalo Soldier, dreadlock Rasta, he was a Buffalo Soldier fighting for America, fighting a rival, fighting for survival."
