March 10th, 2010
Officials at the Air Force Safety Center here have released the list of recipients of the Secretary of the Air Force, Chief of Staff and Chief of Safety Awards for 2009. These awards, according to safety officials, exemplify the best of the Air Force safety teams and the hard work of the winners.
Maj Gen Frederick Roggero, the Air Force chief of safety, said the Air Force has many safety achievements to be proud of in 2009 including the safest year ever in aviation safety. The Air Force nuclear surety program was strengthened through functional-expert visits to field units, publication of the Nuclear Surety Bulletin and by providing deficiency analysis through quarterly Dull Sword reports. Explosive Site safety planning improved significantly throughout the Air Force resulting in more than 950 sites approved in FY 2009.
