Air Mobility Command Airmen, with the 618th Tanker Airlift Control Center here aeromedically evacuated 86 patients from Haiti to the United States for care since Jan. 12.
Aeromedical evacuation planning is accomplished by 618th TACC Airmen at Scott Air Force Base, the lead agency for worldwide air mobility operations.
"Our teams will do anything we can to save lives, which is exactly why we have aeromedical evacuation professionals on our operations floor 24/7,"said Lt. Col Duncan Smith, the chief of the 618th TACC's aeromedical evacuation branch.

Air Mobility Command crews and aircraft have been working around-the-clock, transporting people, supplies and equipment from Pope Air Force Base, N.C., into Haiti to support relief operations following the earthquake that hit the island Jan. 12.
A major portion of the AMC effort was dedicated to deploying Soldiers and equipment from the 82nd Airborne Division's Global Response Force, from Fort Bragg, N.C., being used to facilitate security and the distribution of relief supplies in the region.

The U.S. Air Forces in Europe commander visited Airmen here Jan. 25 through 26 and shared the standards he expects from all USAFE Airmen.
During his two day visit, Gen. Roger A. Brady, toured various work centers, talked with Airmen and met the leader of the Turkish military here, Turkish air force Brig. Gen. Haluk Selvi, the 10th Tanker Base commander.
The general visited the Airman and Family Readiness Center, ongoing renovations in the housing area, the 39th Security Forces Squadron and several other workplaces to meet Airmen and thank them for their service.

A three-person medical team from the Wright-Patterson Medical Center here is providing aeromedical evacuation support to assist victims of the earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
The critical care air transport team, or CCATT, is staging from MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. with the 45th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron. From there, the team flies to Port-au-Prince, picks up critically injured patients and evacuates them to hospitals in south Florida.
CCATTs are highly specialized, rapidly deployable medical teams that set up and provide life-sustaining portable intensive care aboard transport aircraft in flight. Most often they set up their equipment aboard Air Force C-130 Hercules or C-17 Globemaster III aicraft.

On Sept. 11, 2001, the world changed for most Americans and among the hardest hit were Capt. Hillary Wykes.
Captain Wykes, a KC-10 Extender pilot with the 908th Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron at an air base in Southwest Asia, was a flight attendant for United Airlines before entering the Air Force.
"I was working for United on Sept. 11 when the airplanes hit the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon and crashed in the field in Pennsylvania," said Captain Wykes, who is deployed from the 9th Air Refueling Squadron at Travis Air Force Base, Calif. "The people on those planes were my co-workers. My whole world changed."

President Barack Obama will request increased funding for military pay, housing allowances, family support programs and care for wounded warriors, as he recognizing the nation's responsibility to support its men and women in uniform and their families, White House officials said Jan.27, here.
The budget request, expected to be released Feb. 1, will include a 1.4 percent basic pay raise White House officials say, that is designed to keep military pay increases in line with those in the private sector.

Civilian Strategic Leader Program officials are briefing Air Force career field functional leaders this month on details of the program aimed at developing the senior-leader civilian workforce.
"The Air Force has approximately 300 Senior Executive Service civilians today, and we need to ensure we are deliberately identifying, training and educating civilian employees who can compete in the future for senior leader positions," said Angela Kravetz, CSLP office chief.
The CSLP office will move the service toward a process of earlier identification of Air Force employees whose past performance and future potential indicate they will be the most competitive for leading the Air Force at the executive level, said Ms. Kravetz of the program benefits.

Members of 849th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron here received a tasking not typical to their normal, day-to-day mission Jan. 16.
At 9:30 p.m., the formal training squadron staff for the MQ-1 Predator was asked to provide two aircraft and a team of crew chiefs and avionics technicians to support the ongoing relief effort in Haiti.
Thirty hours later, the team of Airmen and aircraft from Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., were in place on a ramp at Nellis AFB, Nev., ready to go.

Fighter aircraft, at the direction of officials from Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, or CONR, will be busy well before Super Bowl Sunday preparing to protect Sun Life Stadium in Miami during game day.
Exercise Amalgam Virgo 10-Miami will be held Jan. 28 in the Greater Miami area to allow interagency partners the chance to practice temporary flight restriction violation procedures.
Amalgam Virgo 10-Miami comprises a series of training flights held in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration, Customs and Border Protection, Civil Air Patrol, and CONR's Eastern Air Defense Sector.
