Coalition airpower integrated with coalition ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations June 27, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

In Afghanistan, a B-1B Lancer used guided bomb unit-38s to target multiple buildings in a strike against an insurgent staging facility. The aircrew coordinated with friendly ground forces to positively identify the target and ensure it was clear of civilians prior to releasing weapons.

Coalition airpower integrated with coalition ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations June 26, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

In Afghanistan, a coalition aircraft carried out strikes using guided bomb unit-12s and strafing passes to clear anti-Afghan snipers from a treeline and an open area. The jet engaged after the enemy snipers opened fire against a friendly unit near Sangin. Nearby other coalition multirole aircraft targeted an enemy building being used as a fighting position with GBU-38s and carried out a show of force to deter enemy forces from attacking a convoy.

Air Force officials announce fiscal 2010 force structure realignments

Air Force officials here announced June 26 its proposed force structure realignment for fiscal 2010. 

The announcement addresses the Air Force's force structure, realignment and management actions supported by the president's fiscal 2010 budget and summarizes the civilian and military personnel changes as well as the reassignment of aircraft at bases for the upcoming fiscal year. 

It reflects adjustments which will provide unsurpassed global vigilance, global reach and global power ... to fly, fight and win in air, space and cyberspace -- today and in the future, given available resources.

Use proper Internet etiquette when posting information online

Keeping family and friends updated about recent adventures has never been easier for Airmen. With the numerous social networking sites available on the Internet, posting pictures and experiences can be a fun way to share details about life while away from home.

Blogging has also become a great way to tell stories, both personally and professionally.

In addition to sharing about travels, telling the military story is a great way to keep others informed and give the public a better understanding of life in the Air Force.

Hurlburt Field unit transfers to Cannon

Officials from the 16th Special Operations Squadron held a squadron flag-transfer ceremony here June 19 to mark the official transfer of the squadron from Hurlburt Field, Fla., to Cannon Air Force Base.

"The mighty (AC-130H) Spectre has arrived," said Lt. Gen. Donald C. Wurster, the Air Force Special Operations Command commander and officiating officer for the event. 

"The 16th Special Operations Squadron, with a proven heritage of courage, precision and valor, has relocated to Cannon AFB as of today, to the high desert of its New Mexico home," General Wurster said.

World War II vet honored on Father’s Day

It took the tenacity of a daughter, the insistence of a politician and the presence of 27th Special Operations Wing members here June 21 to properly recognize a World War II Soldier who sacrificed his leg in combat.

In a Father's Day ceremony in Portales, N.M., Col. Stephen Clark, the 27th SOW commander, presented Herman Wallace a Bronze Star in recognition of his service during World War II. 

Col. Mark LaRose, the 27th Special Operations Maintenance Group commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Hector Baez, the 27th Special Operations Mission Support Group superintendent, walked through a side entrance of the Roosevelt County Electric Cooperative building to make the surprise presentation.

Tinker Airmen make mark in ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’

Airmen of the 552nd Air Control Wing's E-3 Airborne Warning and Control System here had a unique mission recently: helping Autobots fight off Decepticons in support of worldwide security.

As seen in the newly released movie, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," an E-3 Sentry aircrew played an integral role in fighting off the "bad guys" and ensuring the "good guys" reign victorious in the action-packed Hollywood film released June 24.

The E-3 crew is shown in action doing what they do best: providing command and control information to senior leaders to help support national and worldwide security.

AF medical service celebrates 60 years

Air Force medical service officials commemorated 60 years of service here June 25.

Air Force Surgeon General Lt. Gen. (Dr.) James G. Roudebush hosted the event at the San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk to honor the medical service's contributions over the last 60 years and to highlight the way ahead.

"The Air Force medical service has been an integral part of the United States Air Force. The medical service has been there -- right care, right time, right place -- for our Airmen and their families, for our Airmen in harm's way and for our nation," General Roudebush said. "We've earned that trust every day; that's what we're celebrating here today."

Chief McKinley showed strength, care throughout his term

In a little less than one week, Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Rodney J. McKinley will retire from active duty. What better time than now to reflect on the 15th chief master sergeant of the Air Force's tenure as our top enlisted leader? 

Chief McKinley will be the first person to tell you that he's not interested in legacy talk. This was seen in his recent remarks at the 2008 Airlift Tankers Association meeting when he said, "I don't care about any legacy. I just care about taking care of Airmen." In that statement is the legacy of Chief McKinley: taking care of Airmen.

Combat controllers support Northern Edge

Air Force combat controllers are a rare breed of elite specialists who accompany U.S. ground troops to serve as a liaison between those forces and the air support they rely on. 

Each combat controller is a fully qualified air traffic control expert, able to manage the complex air operations above a combat zone or remote airfield. 

Many also qualify as joint terminal attack control experts, coordinating airstrikes, reconnaissance and other forms of air support on behalf of the ground troops they accompany.
